x6

Nokia’s first ever touch screen handset utilising the iPhone-esque capacitive technology, the X6, goes on sale tomorrow (Friday 27th November 2009), but only in Finland and the United Kingdom.

This breaks away from Nokia’s usual trait of using resistive touch screen, which to many people, is seen as the inferior hardware.

Reaction to how the X6′s screen is received by the public and press is sure to influence Nokia’s future direction when choosing which path to follow.  At least, let’s hope that is the case.

So then, the X6 has been available to pre-order in the Nokia online shop for some time now, and it is going for the seemingly extortionate price of £449.  However, it is not instantly obvious to the general consumer, that this actually includes a one year subscription to the struggling Comes With Music service.

Comes With Music essentially allows you to download as much music from the Nokia Music Store as you can handle, for an entire year.  Obviously this depends on how much of a music buff you are, to determine whether this is of use to you.  One thing to note though, is that the music is all loaded with DRM, which will put many people off.

The X6 is the first in a new line of X-Series devices, but the specification sheet shows a fairly run-of-the-mill standard Nokia fair, and won’t have the geek crowd foaming at the mouth by a long way.

The X6 has a 3.2 inch nHD display, 3G, WiFi, A-GPS, Bluetooth, 5 Megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, 3.5mm AV jack, runs Symbian 5th Edition OS and a whopping 32Gb of built in memory for storing your ‘free’ music.

In the UK it is apparently going to be exclusively available on the Orange network, from Phones4U stores for free on £35 a month contracts.  Or £25 a month contracts if you trade in your old N-Series handset.  The X6 will also be available in Nokia Retail Stores on a SIM Free basis, but paying the full £449.
