It would seem that Nokia have finally got round to releasing the long awaited Version 20 firmware update for those N86 devices running UK country variant (SIM Free) product codes.
My white N86 is running product code 0587709, and checking for updates using the handset’s OTA firmware application has shown that V20.115 is available for download.
This is almost 2 months after the firmware was made available to other markets.
Running the update through the built in Software Update package went as smoothly as to be expected, and took around 5 minutes in total. As always, a backup is strongly recommended beforehand.

Initial findings, show the Ovi Chat service is now integrated into the homescreen, with threaded conversation text messages being available also.

Face detection has been added to the camera application, along with a few other enhancements in that area. Check out All About Symbian’s post from September for a more accurate list.
Personally, I hope that it has sorted some bugs, especially surrounding the bluetooth, in which I have found performance to be less than satisfactory.

this is great for the UK users, but what is with the german coutry variant 0586595 ?
everytime you contact Nokia, you only get a link to the NSU software updater.
I want to have sharper pictures of my kids, and a better whitebalance, just like it is described in the new firmware….
Sad sad sad Nokia, can you imagine which brand will my next mobile phone have ?

I understand your frustration Peter, this whole country variant firmware is a complete joke, and it has only been getting worse just recently.
I just wish they would publish specific dates on when particular firmware will be available, and then stick to them.

Hy Steve,
first of all great site here that you have,
and i just changed my prodcode, because i was so frustrated about blurry pictures of my kids and so on. And now ?
Everything goes very smoothe, perfect pictures, browser goes faster, nothing gets stuck, and so on.
I´m really fascinated, why couldn´t this be before, or why takes it so long to get such an update.
So i had to risk my guarantee to get this really important update….
Now everything is okay…. until something gets broken in my phone, then i have to see if it gets trouble with changing the code or not, some NCP´s are very strict others not…
